The sky, at the minute you were born.

A sun sign is a month wide. Your kundli is a minute wide. Jyotisha computes it from your exact birth time and place — sidereal, Lahiri ayanamsa — and shows you the working behind every figure.

Chapter 01 · The minute

Every two hours, a new sign rises in the east.

That rising sign is your lagna — the anchor every house in your chart hangs from. Two people born the same day, three hours apart, have different lagnas and different charts. That's why Jyotisha asks for the minute, not just the date.

Chapter 02 · The place

A panchang is only true for where you are standing.

Sunrise in Varanasi is not sunrise in Dubai, and every muhurat is cut from the day between sunrise and sunset. Jyotisha computes today's panchang for your coordinates — tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana, vaara, moonrise — and the windows to use and the ones to avoid.

  • Tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana and vaara for your location
  • Sunrise, sunset, moonrise and moonset
  • Abhijit, Yamaganda and Gulika Kaal — the good window and the ones to avoid
Today, computed in your browser

Sunrise and sunset from the standard solar equation for the chosen coordinates; muhurats cut from that day. Tithi, nakshatra and moonrise need the Moon's position too — the app computes those.

    Chapter 03 · The unfolding

A life, divided into periods. Then divided again.

Vimshottari dasha lays 120 years across nine planetary lords, then nests the same sequence inside each period — four levels deep. Jyotisha shows all four, with the period running right now marked, so “Śani–Budha–Ketu” is a place on a timeline, not a phrase.

    • Dasa → bhukti → antaram → sukshma
    • Running period marked, with start and end dates

    Chapter 04 · The match

    Thirty-six points. Eight reasons.

Ashtakoota compares two Moon charts across eight kootas, each worth a little more than the last. A score of 27 tells you almost nothing; where the points came from tells you everything. Jyotisha explains every koota, and keeps the matches you save.

    • Full Ashtakoota — Varṇa to Nāḍī, all 36 points
    • Each koota explained, not just scored
    • Save matches and come back to them any time

    0 / 36

Bhakūṭa scores zero here — the app tells you what that means and whether Nāḍī and Graha Maitrī offset it.

Chapter 05 · The road ahead

Not “this week will be good”. Which days, and why.

Gochara runs today's planets against your natal chart; tarabala and chandrabala score each day from your Moon. Jyotisha lets you scrub any range — next week, a wedding season, the whole year — at daily, weekly or monthly resolution.

    Transits, live

Every planet's position today against your natal chart — the gochara that drives the forecast.

    Shows its work

Open any figure to see the calculation behind it — ayanamsa, longitude, nakshatra, pada.

Why we built it this way

An almanac, not a fortune teller.

Most astrology apps sell reassurance: a purple gradient, a glowing wheel, a paragraph that could be about anyone. Jyotisha does something plainer and harder. It shows you what the sky was doing at the minute you were born and what it is doing today, and it shows its work. Nothing is dressed up. Nothing is hidden.

    1. Exact time and place

Birth time, geocoded to latitude and longitude, with the timezone in force on that date.

    2. Planetary positions at that instant

Sun, Moon, five planets, Rahu and Ketu from an ephemeris — not a table of sun signs.

    3. Lahiri ayanamsa applied

Tropical positions shifted to sidereal with Lahiri (Chitrapaksha), the standard Indian panchangs are built on.

    4. Lagna, houses, nakshatra, dasha

The ascendant from the eastern horizon, house placements, nakshatra padas and the dasha balance at birth — every figure traceable to the one before it.

    Questions

    Before you install.

    Which ayanamsa does Jyotisha use?

Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) — the ayanamsa adopted by the Indian Calendar Reform Committee and used by most Indian panchangs. Every figure in the app is sidereal.

Do I need my exact birth time?

For the lagna, house placements and dasha balance, yes — those move with the minutes. The daily panchang, muhurat and sunrise times need only a date and a place.

    Do I need an account?

No. Enter your details and see your own chart without signing up. An account is only needed to keep charts, save guna milan matches and get notifications.

Is the panchang for my city or for India?

For your location. Tithi, nakshatra, sunrise, moonrise and the muhurat windows are computed for the coordinates you pick — Varanasi, Vadodara or Vancouver.

    Which platforms is it on?

Jyotisha is on Google Play today, for Android phones and tablets.

    Who does the calculations?

Jyotisha's calculations are powered by the VedAstro engine. The app's job is to ask for the right inputs, present the results clearly and let you see how each one was reached.
